On November 22, 2023, Boya (HongKong) Culture, Athletics & Arts Society held an outcomes showcase for the first cohort of the "Emerging Artists Support Program." After one year of systematic support, the first 12 selected participants achieved notable growth and results in their respective professional fields. Among them, 3 participants were nominated for the Young Talent category of the 4th "Boya Cup," and 1 participant won the award.
The 12 selected participants were chosen from 47 applications and covered six professional directions: visual arts, music performance, dance choreography, sports education, cultural research, and digital media art. Their average age at the time of selection was 29. Seven were from Mainland China, two from Hong Kong, two from Taiwan, and one from Singapore.
During the support period, five core forms of support were provided: priority approval for research projects, with 8 participants successfully applying for general projects; mentor matching, with 9 experts volunteering as mentors and receiving a satisfaction score of 4.6 out of 5; recommendation and presentation of achievements, including the publication of 24 feature articles; academic exchange opportunities, including seminars, salons, and academic visits; and priority recommendation for the Boya Cup, with 7 participants applying, 3 receiving nominations, and 1 winning an award.
Representative outcomes included a digital media art participant completing a series of works combining traditional ink painting with digital algorithms; a sports education research participant completing a field study on the aesthetic education function of community sports and winning the Young Talent award; and a dance choreography participant creating a work integrating operatic body movement with contemporary dance, which was performed in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Based on the experience of the first cohort, BCAAS announced several optimization measures: allowing a support cycle of either one or two years, adding a peer learning mechanism, expanding the mentor pool, and establishing an alumni network. Applications for the 2024 support program opened at the same time.
